Evaluator Training

IPA provides ISBE-required Administrator Academies for individuals to earn and renew their teacher and/or principal evaluator designation. Earned evaluator designations appear on an Illinois educator's Professional Educator License (PEL). If my teacher evaluator designation lapses, do I have to take AA #2001 again to reinstate the designation?

No, once you complete the retraining on teacher practice and student growth, the designation will be reinstated.

If my principal evaluator designation lapses, do I have to take AA #4050 again to reinstate the designation?

Yes, until ISBE changes the renewal AA course requirements. Once you complete AA #4050, the designation will be reinstated.

Is my evaluator designation valid for five years from the date it was earned or is it aligned to my licensure cycle?

Once completed, your evaluator designation follows your licensure cycle. The designation is good for the cycle in which it was earned and for the next subsequent five-year cycle. However, during that subsequent five-year cycle, you must complete the retraining courses to ensure the designation continues to remain valid.

If I complete a retraining during the same licensure cycle in which I completed the initial training, can the retraining be counted toward my next licensure cycle?

No. You cannot "bank" or save the retraining for another licensure cycle. Completion of a retraining course during the licensure cycle in which you earned your initial evaluator designation will count toward your annual AA credit (if applicable) or PD credit only.

Will I have to take #4050 if I have already met my retraining requirements?

If you have already completed your retraining requirements for your current licensure cycle, you do not have to take #4050 until your next cycle.

I completed one or my principal retraining requirements (AA #1865 or AA #3000) in my current licensure cycle and before July 1, 2024. Can I take only one day of #4050 to count toward my second retraining day?

No, if you did not complete both AA #1865 and AA #3000 during your current licensure cycle (before July 1, 2024), you must complete the full two days of AA #4050 on or after July 1, 2024.

Will AA #4050 count toward my student growth requirement for my teacher evaluator designation?

No, if you hold a teacher evaluator designation and are in a renewal license cycle, you must take AA #3000 to meet the student growth requirement.

What if I don't intend to use the School Leader Evaluation Plan presented in AA #4050?

No district is required to adopt the School Leader Evaluation Plan. However, the plan will serve as the framework used to train individuals to effectively evaluate school leaders.
